Québec, October 5, 2010 – Les Presses de l’Université du Québec (PUQ) has chosen Interscript to digitalize 200 backlist works. The works, already available in PDF format, will soon be available on smartphones in ePub format—a bold statement that the PUQ hopes will incite other publishers to digitalize their works.
By deploying its digital publishing strategy, the PUQ has chosen to not be a casual spectator in the digital revolution that is currently transforming the publishing industry. “We wanted to be the vanguard of digital publishing in Québec,” explaned Bianca Drapeau, interim General Manager at the PUQ. “We were the first Quebec publishing house to completely digitalize our backlist in PDF format. We are now continuing to push the technological envelope and convert our works using a variety of different publishing formats. Thanks to the ePub format, our works will be available, in the upcoming months, on the iPhone as well as the HTC and BlackBerry smartphones. The PUQ is offering its authors a greater visibility among an ever-increasing digital customer base. We are thrilled to have worked with Interscript, which has an undeniable expertise and solid background in digital publishing. The PUQ and Interscript have a 20-year business relationship for the design and layout of our books. We know that their standards and commitment to quality are second to none.”
Interscript is a Québec-based company specializing in design and layout of both print and digital books. Located in Québec City’s St-Roch sector, Interscript is in the heart of the area known as the techno-cultural center of the city. “We are proud that the PUQ has such a level of confidence in our expertise and the value we offer publishers. As a Québec company, we are also committed to digitally preserving and making even more accessible Québec’s culture to the world. We are—and will continue to be—one of the major players in the Quebec publishing industry’s digital transformation. It is important for the publishing community to remember that local partners are available to provide the quality work and assistance needed to produce digital works that meet publisher and reader standards,” said Gontran Lévesque, Vice President of Interscript.
